Collaborative Family Law: Helping Parents to Separate Positively

The end of a marriage doesn’t necessarily mean the end of your family – when you have children, it’s important to work together with your ex to minimise the impact of separation. Collaborative family law is an effective out-of-court method of dispute resolution for parents, encouraging them to work through their differences and pave the way for successful co-parenting in the future.

Choosing to separate out of court gives parents a far better chance of a positive relationship with each other afterwards as it offers the chance to come to their own decisions about the division of assets and balancing time with their children. Collaborative family law allows couples to work together with a family law solicitor to find a solution that is beneficial for their whole family, avoiding the complications and costs of court.

Going to court can be stressful for both parents and children, and, in most cases, is far more expensive and time consuming than out-of-court alternatives. If you need help coming to a decision with your ex-partner, collaborative family law can be a helpful way to discuss your issues with an objective view to finding a resolution, and the support of an experienced family law solicitor.

Separating when you have children is never easy, but there are ways to reduce the stress and disruption involved and create a positive future for everyone. Out-of-court solutions like collaborative family law and mediation are generally much faster, cheaper and less adversarial than court divorce, and help you come to a resolution with dignity and respect.
